'From Blood and Ash' by Jennifer L Armentrout: Review

Chosen from birth to be the 'Maiden', Poppy has lived a sheltered life; never to be touched, never to be looked upon and never to be spoken too. Always guarded and awaiting her Ascension, Poppy would rather fight the terror that stole her family but choice and freedom has never been hers... Until Hawkeye.

So I was VERY wary of actually reading this because of the intense hype surrounding it (I usually hate most hyped books) so I avoided it. And then I finally caved.

And there are NO words to explain how in love I am with with FBAA!

This is definitely a book you need to go blind, so I won't be saying much about the amazing plot! I did figure out a few things - I'm not sure if that was intentional but I sure as hell didn't mind. For me it added to the shock factor when all is revealed (no idea how that works but we're rolling with it). And there was a few things I was NOT expecting in the slightest, so I was still kept on my toes (or should I say kept me up until 3am for 2 nights in a row?!), and yes I cried several times, which does not easily happen. Well played Jennifer 👏

I think the thing I loved most was the world building and slow burn in the first few hundred pages. I loved the time Jennifer took to build a strong lead; poppy is funny yet sarcastic, and a badass, but also vulnerable too. A.K.A perfection. Now, Hawkeye. Yeah ok he's your typical smoking hot love interest but dearie me is he a swoon worthy 😍. Buuut, unlike your stereotypical hot guy this one is actually be witty and balance the book out so perfectly. His personality just bounces off every character so well!

This book had me on a rollercoaster for quite a part of the book - I felt devastation for some of the characters' fates, shock at some showing their true selves and so much more packed in those pages.

I admit, I was so confused at first with the whole Maiden and Ascension thingy and who's who, but it's explained pretty well and I did adjust pretty quickly, which I love 👌

So, to conclude: sexy characters, perfect plot and worldbuilding. 5 stars. Highly freaking recommend. Have book 2 handy, you will want to devour it straightaway.

Bonus points for floppy book and the cover is one of the best and truly represents what awaits you in the book.
