History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time.
Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
So this book is where things really start to heat up. I was totally right about Seth too and I HATE him. I hate him just as much as Tamlin.
The stakes are sky high in Deity; if what happened in the battle comes out both Aidan and Alex are in deep trouble and could lose their lives. Alex also has the Order to worry about and the oh so glorious bond that could threaten Alex into losing herself on her Awakening. And even though she chose Seth, Alex still loves Aidan. Oh, and the gods are threatening war.
Alex has major growth here. She is learning to temper that anger (although not with Aidan, she's still as feisty as ever) she struggles with, but she also matures. She doesn't break as many rules and she is so loyal to those she cares about. Yeah, she's facing threats left right and centre but she does her absolute best (sometimes reckless) to protect Aidan, her Uncle, and even Seth (until a certain point). She also isn't as reckless - aside from nearly going to the Underworld with Hades - and she thinks through her decisions, namely with Aidan, before acting. It's amazing growth for her. I like how she deals with the blows in deity too, even through the betrayals and manipulation and her fears of losing herself in the Awakening.
Seth. If I could kill his pretty little head I would. I am NOT a fan. I don't care whether he had a broken childhood or being manipulated by Lucian - I SIMPLY DON'T CARE. It does not excuse his actions. You don't manipulate people or abusive them like Seth did. Alex belongs to NO ONE but herself. SHE chooses who she is. I hate how he turned on her with Lucian near the end too, and given no choice in what happens. I am rooting for him to die in book 4 or 5. (Rant Over)
What I love about this book is the sneaky revelations that you didn't even know were a possibility. We finally know how Apollyon's are created and plan, as well as some things about Alex's ancient bloodline and father. Oh, and we see more of Deacon. Deacon is quite funny. Alex realises she also has a lot more support than she previously believed - even by those she thought were on the other side.
I absolutely loved that cliffhanger and the events before it. There was definitely more plotline and complexity in Deity and it's just great. Alex and Aidan also FINALLY have their moment... and finds out no one really cares - even the gods. Anyways, my favourite book so far!
