'Feast of Fools by Rachel Caine' Review

Morganville Vampires and humans co-exist peacefully - mostly. However, with the arrival of Mr Bishop - Amelie's Father - everything is not as it seems!

The fourth book is quite slow paced and I didn't really like it all that much. For me I found it was a filler book, where nothing really happens but it's needed to set up the next book. I did enjoy the literal madness of some of the characters especially Myrrin.

There were quite a few things that didn't make sense;

  1. The constant changing of who can enter the Glass House. One minute it's the vampires (because humans live there, so they have to be invited in), then the next it's humans - because Michael is now a vampire. And then it's free reign. What are the actual rules?

  2. Jason. he's constantly changing sides - we're led to believe he's a serial killer, then actually he isn't. Oh but then the his absolute pscyho side is revealed. Again: What's the truth? I'm not sure Rachel knew where she was going with this character because he's constantly switching personalities.

We have new characters introduced: Amelie's father (even more of a psycho than Jasnon), Claire's parents (who are basically plot fillers - they only appear when it's relevant for the plot).

I did love the mysteriousness of Bishop and the way it developed over the course of the book! His war with Amelie is intriguing - you don't quite know what to expect between the two of them I also loved how we saw more of Claire and Shaun's romance and their growth together. I enjoyed seeing more of Myrrin - he kept me fascinated throughout the book (his chapters were the best). The madness from the disease was so gripping, you can't anticipate his moods or how he'll be with Claire during their lessons. He is one of my favourite characters in Morganville! However, I do feel the other characters got a bit lost - Matthew and Eve don't have very much development either, they were kind of floating in and out of the story and not very memorable.

All in all, I did enjoy it but there were a lot of issues that I couldn't ignore and did confuse me while reading Feast of Fools, which is why I'm rating it 3 stars.
